Despite what had been projected to be an extremely busy month for spring break travel, St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport’s March domestic passenger traffic dropped by 4% compared to the same month last year.

The numbers represent a rare decrease in arrivals and departures at the busy Pinellas County facility, which is also known as PIE, its airport code. According to a news release, there were 122,204 domestic arrivals and 118,607 domestic departures.

International passenger traffic, however, was up 24% compared to March 2022, the release states. PIE saw 2,363 international arrivals and 2,402 international departures.

PIE serves 63 destinations with nonstop flights offered primarily by Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air.
