Sanibel Captiva Community Bank has reopened its main office, at 2406 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, following a Hurricane Ian-forced closure.

The bank had been offering banking services in the parking lot for the past seven weeks, according to a statement, as "the building experienced minor water damage and only required minimal water remediation."

Repairs are complete in the bank’s boardroom, which will serve as a temporary branch while the remainder of the building continues to undergo renovations, add bank officials.

Bank staff will be on site Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., to provide island residents and business owners who are existing customers with banking services. Safe deposit boxes formerly in the main office, meanwhile, have been "safely and securely transported to the bank's Bridge Branch at 9311 College Parkway and can be accessed during regular business hours," the release states.

“We are delighted to be back in our Main Office on Sanibel,” says Craig Albert, CEO of Sanibel Captiva Community Bank, in the statement. “Providing banking services out of our parking lot in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian was important so we could help our customers in their greatest time of need, but we are so pleased to get back in our building to establish some normalcy for our island customers.”

Founded in 2003, Sanibel Captiva Community Bank has six open locations throughout Lee County. The bank is nationally ranked in the top 2% best-performing community banks by S&P Global Market Intelligence out of more than 4,400 banks with assets under $1 billion. With more than $729 million in total assets, the bank employs more than 100 employees, and more than 60% are current shareholders.
