Catalyst OrthoScience, a medical device company focused on the upper extremity orthopedics market, recently named David Sharp vice president of global marketing, effective immediately.

The appointment comes three months after the Naples-based firm named medical device industry leader Carl O’Connell president and CEO.

Sharp brings more than 27 years of marketing, strategy, business development, communications and branding experience in the medical device industry to his new role. Companies he has worked for include Sofamor Danek, Smith & Nephew, Medtronic Spinal & Biologics, Baxter International and, most recently, MicroPort Orthopedics, according to a statement.

“We are excited to have an executive with David’s experience join our team at Catalyst OrthoScience,” O’Connell says in the release. “As we continue to grow and establish our presence as an emerging global leader in shoulder pathology solutions, David’s leadership and experience will help make that vision a reality.”

Catalyst OrthoScience, with a goal to develop innovative medical solutions that make orthopedic surgery less invasive and more efficient for both surgeons and patients, has a growing portfolio of patents and pending patents on its distinctive surgical offerings. Its products are available across the U.S. In 2021 it both won FDA approval for its innovative new reverse shoulder implant system and closed a $12.5 million funding round.

“I am excited to join the Catalyst team and contribute to the company’s goals that focus on sustainable growth and delivering real solutions to clinical unmet needs for shoulder surgeons and their patients around the world,” Sharp says in the statement. “I will be focused on growing a best-in-class marketing team and brand as we continue to build our core foundations in sales, marketing, R&D and MedEd.”
