Amazon is adding five delivery stations in Florida including one each in Pinellas and Lee counties.
The stations are part of a major expansion in Florida by the online retailer expected to bring more than 2,000 jobs to the state. The biggest piece of the expansion is a 630.000-square-foot fulfillment center in Tallahassee that will employ 1,000 and is scheduled to open late next year.
As for the delivery stations, the company did not release details on when they’d open.
According to an Amazon job posting, delivery stations “are the final stop before an order heads out for delivery to the customer’s door.”
In a press release announcing the statewide expansion, Amazon says the delivery stations “offer entrepreneurs the opportunity to build their own business delivering Amazon packages.”
While details about the stations weren’t available, Pinellas property records show that the site for the Amazon station at 6101 45th St. N. in Pinellas Park is zoned heavy industrial and includes three buildings with a total of 120,000 square feet of space.
The property was sold in May to a limited liability corporation with an Atlanta address for $12.3 million.
As for the 45-acre Fort Myers property at 16300 Lee Rd., off Alico Road, the Business Observer reported in July that it had sold for $15.12 million and was intended for a 278,670-square-foot building.
The other delivery stations will be in Melbourne, Riviera Beach and Coral Springs.
The announcement of the Tallahassee fulfillment center and the delivery stations comes a week after Amazon announced it was building a similar one in Port St. Lucie.
According to the company, research shows it has invested more than $18 billion in the state and created more than 52,000 jobs in Florida.
