Amazon plans a pair of new buildings in region

Plans filed with Lee County call for two fulfillment centers to be developed in the Alico Distribution Center.

Online retail giant Amazon established a footprint from which to distribute consumer goods in Lee County in early 2019, when it agreed to lease 60,000 square feet in the Airport Woods Commerce Center near the Southwest Florida International Airport.

In the more than two years since, though, the Seattle-based company’s business has exploded in Southwest Florida and elsewhere, largely as a result of shifting consumer sentiment and the global COVID-19 pandemic.
