Ohio couple gives $1M to college

FORT MYERS — An Ohio couple who recently bought a condo in Bonita Springs, David and Alise Bartley, pledged a $1 million gift to Florida Gulf Coast University's College of Health Professions and Social Work.

The Bartleys, according to a statement from the Fort Myers-based college, first learned about FGCU when the school's men's basketball team made its famous Dunk City run in the 2013 NCAA tournament. David Bartley is chairman of Ohio Gratings, a manufacturer of custom bar grating, the release adds. He was recently named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Northeast Ohio in the family business category. Alise Bartley is a marriage and family therapist in North Canton, Ohio. The couple plans to relocate from Ohio to Bonita Springs in the next year, the release adds.

College officials say the gift will be used to expand faculty resources, create scholarships, fund program development and create professional opportunities for students.
