College to train future pilots

FORT MYERS — Fort Myers Technical College is launching a pilot ground school that will teach students about aerodynamics and communications procedures.

Once they complete the school program, students can take the Federal Aviation Administration's private pilot knowledge test required for a license. Classes start Jan. 26 and the course lasts 14 weeks.

“Fort Myers Technical College has recognized a growing need in Southwest Florida for knowledgeable professionals that are capable of meeting the aviation industry needs,” says Bill McCormick, director of Fort Myers Technical College, in a statement. “The new pilot ground school will prepare students for the aviation world by teaching the fundamentals of flight training in preparation for FAA testing and hands-on flight experience.”
