A day at the beach these days isn't always cheap.
That's the word from TravelBird, a travel data website. The firm's 2016 Beach Price Index calculates the cost of an average day at the beach, looking at 250 spots from 66 countries.
The analysis looks at the costs of sunscreen, a bottle of water, a beer, ice cream and lunch, with monetary transactions true to exchange rates.
Nine of the top 10 most expensive beaches come in with a daily average cost of more than $50 per person. The top two are both in French Polynesia: La Plage de Maui in Tahiti, at $60.13, and Mareto Plage Publique in Moorea, at $58.36. The first American beach on the list, not a big surprise, is Main Beach on East Hampton, Long Island, at $48.85 a day. Cua Dai Beach, in Hoi An, Vietnam, is the cheapest beach per average day, the study found, at $13.54.
