Late last year, downtown Tampa got a Christmas gift it would never forget.

A development team led by Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik unveiled plans to transform 40 acres of prime downtown land into a $1.1 billion economic hub. Plans include more than one million square feet of office space; one million square feet in hotel and residential space; 250,000 square feet of retail; and the University of South Florida's medical school.
