Tech Data Corp. has lost a client to one of its biggest competitors -- and the Clearwater technology distribution giant isn't talking about it.
Arcserve, a data recovery and protection software company, shifted its business from Tech Data to Ingram Micro, according to trade publication CRN. Arcserve's relationship with Tech Data dates back to Arcserve's previous owner, New York City-based Computer Associates, now known as CA Inc. CA spun off Arcserve last August, and the company has since sought ways to prevent its product from being diluted among multiple distributors.
Tech Data shared distribution work of Arcserve products with Synnex Corp., a similar distribution company out of Fremont, Calif. Tech Data will officially part ways with Arcserve by May 29. Tech Data officials didn't return a call seeking comment on the Arcserve news.
Tech Data, with a $2.1 billion market cap, recently had another big change: Jeffery Howells, CFO at the firm since 1992, announced he will retire June 5. Charles Dannewitz, Tech Data's senior vice president and CFO of the Americas, will replace Howells. Dannewitz joined the company in 1995 as vice president of taxes.
