OLDSMAR — Ultra Clean Systems announced it has secured North American distribution rights to the ProReveal Fluorescence Protein Testing System. The Oldsmar-based company, which manufactures and sells ultrasonic equipment that cleans surgical instruments, says the ProReveal system, created by Synoptics Health, represents a significant advance in surgical instrument reprocessing technology.

The system uses a non-toxic spray and fluorescence imaging to detect the presence of residual protein on surgical instruments after they have gone through a washer/disinfector process. ProReveal's test offers accurate and measurable results in 3-D or 2-D to show whether a decontaminated instrument is safe for reuse.

The devices, sprays and testing procedures were developed by Dr. David Perrett, a professor of bioanalytical science; Nanda Nayuni, a post-doctoral researcher on bioanalysis; the William Harvey Research Institute; Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry; and Queen Mary University of London.

“It is always our goal to have a competitive edge and having the exclusive rights to the ProReveal System is an invaluable asset towards that objective,” UCS Director of Marketing Tom Overbey says in a press release.
