Florida Virtual Academy approved to operate in Hillsborough
The Florida Virtual Academy has been approved by the Hillsborough County Public Schools as a new public charter school in the county. The school, which will use curriculum, technology, and school services provided by K12 Inc., will initially serve students in grades K-8 next school year. It plans to expand and offer high school grades in the following years.

The Florida Virtual Academy at Hillsborough County will follow all state accountability standards and requirements, including attendance requirements and participation in state assessments.

Florida Virtual Academy public charter schools are currently operating in Palm Beach, Broward, Duval, Pasco and Osceola counties. In addition to Hillsborough County, Pinellas and Clay counties have also approved Florida Virtual Academy charter schools to open in 2014.

Suncoast Schools credit union members vote to expand
Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union received approval from its membership to move forward with its expansion plans. The credit union's membership approved converting from a federal charter to a state of Florida charter.

The change will allow the credit union to serve all residents of 17 counties located near or along the west coast of Florida.

The change is scheduled to occur in early January 2014.

With a state charter conversion, the credit union plans to drop “Schools” from name and logo to become Suncoast Credit Union.

“Converting to a state charter will allow growth, diversity and it will strengthen our financial performance,” Tom Dorety, president and CEO of Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union, says in a press release.

Member accounts will continue to be federally insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund.

Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union, chartered in 1934 as Hillsborough County Teachers Credit Union, operates 54 full-service branches and serves more than 560,000 members in the following Florida counties: Charlotte, Citrus, Collier, DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Hernando, Hillsborough, Lee, Levy, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas and Sumter. With assets of more than $5.4 billion, Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union is the largest credit union in the state and the 14th largest in the United States.

Cody Consulting creates VP of sales job, hires former Elemental LED executive

Tampa-based health care consulting firm Cody Consulting has hired Bradley Boyer for the newly created position of vice president of sales and marketing. The company says the addition was driven by expected new business from changes in the health care industry and the expected launch of two new software products in 2014.

Boyer is responsible for the company's overall sales and marketing strategy, building a national sales team, product development and enhancing the enterprise sales process and sales channels.

He was previously the regional sales manager for Elemental LED in Emeryville, Calif., where he handled strategic sales, recruiting, and leadership of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regional sales team.

“Health plans are at a critical juncture, where they have to find the most cost-effective ways to operate, and at the same time stay in regulatory compliance, which is getting progressively more difficult with the increasing governmental oversight,” Cody Consulting CEO Deb Mabari says in a press release. “We see a huge opportunity to make a significant sales and marketing push right now. Brad is a very talented professional, and we're thrilled to have him join our team and help propel us to the next level.”

Founded in 2006, Cody Consulting works with health plans throughout the country to maximize efficiencies and cut costs.
