Retirement community expands

FORT MYERS — Shell Point Retirement Community, one of the largest continuing-care retirement communities in the region, completed a $2 million conversion of a nearby hotel into an assisted-living facility.

Formerly a Country Inn & Suites, the building now houses The Springs at Shell Point, a 105-unit assisted-living facility near the corner of Summerlin Road and McGregor Boulevard in Fort Myers.

The Springs is the third assisted-living facility at Shell Point, a sprawling continuing-care retirement community with about 2,300 residents and 900 employees. The first two assisted-living facilities are almost fully occupied, and Shell Point expects growing demand for such facilities.
