It wasn't likely that Nick Vojnovic would stay out of the restaurant business very long after leaving Tampa-based Beef 'O' Brady's sports pubs nearly a year ago. Now he has resurfaced as an investor in the upstart Little Greek Restaurant chain.
Vojnovic has purchased a majority stake in the small fast-casual concept, which serves gyros, wraps and salads. The chain currently has three locations in Palm Harbor, Clearwater and New Port Richey, plus one more in Richardson, Texas.
After 12 years at Beef's, Vojnovic departed parent company Family Sports Concepts last June after the regional casual dining chain was purchased by a private equity firm that brought in a new chief executive. Not one to sit idle for too long, he enrolled in the University of South Florida's Executive M.B.A. program, fulfilling a longtime career goal.
His investment in Little Greek does not conflict with a non-compete agreement he signed when leaving Beef's, since the new chain doesn't have a wait staff. Customers order at the front counter and runners bring the food to their tables.
Vojnovic and Little Greek founder Sigrid Bratic are considering additional locations in St. Petersburg, Tampa and Orlando. The two were introduced by way of a restaurant franchise industry consultant.
