TALLAHASSEE — The Florida House passed a measure Friday to prohibit state agencies from deducting union dues from public workers' paychecks.

House Bill 1021 passed 73-40, but failed to attract a single vote from Democrats. Three Republicans also opposed the measure including Rep. Ed Hooper, R-Clearwater. The House bill takes effect July 1.

The Senate version of the bill, Senate Bill 830, passed the Community Affairs Committee on a 5-4 vote. It's been referred to the Budget and Rules committees.
