When Grand Prix and Dali collide

Let's say you're a fan of surrealist art but not open-wheel street racing. If you're in downtown St. Petersburg next weekend, you could be out of luck — and a few more bucks.

The newly opened Salvador Dali Museum is within the 1.8-mile circuit of the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, which means the only way you will be able to get in to see Dali's works March 25-27 will be to buy a ticket for the races, too. Race tickets range from $40 for general admission to $110 for a three-day reserved pass, while museum admission costs $21.

This is the first time such a conflict has occurred in the seven-year history of the race, since the Dali opened Jan. 11. Race organizers and museum officials are waiting to see how the two will coexist, especially given the decibel levels of IndyCar engines against the museum's protective glass-and-concrete shell.
