Lee home building picks up

FORT MYERS — Builders pulled 52 permits for new single-family home construction in unincorporated Lee County in the month of May. That's the highest number of permit pulls since June 2008, when 56 were issued, according to county officials.

The residential construction permits represent $10 million in new projects, the county estimates. Additionally, seven permits were issued for commercial construction, representing $1 million in new work.

Two permits were issued for multi-family construction as well, the county says in a statement.
