Richard Pegnetter, the founding dean of the Lutgert College of Business at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, is retiring.

But apparently none of the current faculty wants his job. Of the 60-plus applications received so far, all of them have been from outsiders.

Still, the high number of applications indicates the success Pegnetter has had building the business school's reputation from scratch. The young university's business school currently has about 2,600 undergraduate students and 250 graduate students, a large share of the total 12,000-student population.
