Get ready for growth makeover

Florida's growth management laws look to be in for a major do-over. Changes should please deregulation advocates and local governments that favor less state interference with local plans.

An early December draft of proposed changes to the often criticized growth management act shows the shift in philosophy, starting with renaming it the “Community Planning Act of 2011.”

The Department of Community Affairs appears likely to dumped and its responsibilities would fall to the division of community planning as part of whatever agency it will fall under in Gov. Rick Scott's reorganization plan.
