Scott will run with Carroll

Rick Scott, the Republican nominee running for Florida governor, selected Rep. Jennifer Carroll, R-Fleming Island, as his running mate in the upcoming election.

"Jennifer Carroll is the embodiment of the American dream," Scott told reporters in Jacksonville. "She came to America as a young girl, decided to serve her country with the United States Navy, pursued a higher education, started a small business, and then was elected the first African-American female Republican in the Florida Legislature."

Carroll retired from the U.S. Navy in 1999 after a 22-year career. She is a lifetime member of the NAACP and the NRA.
