Media General 'convergence' shows mixed results

A celebration was held Tuesday night for the 10th anniversary of Media General Inc.'s convergence project in Tampa, in which the resources of The Tampa Tribune, WFLA News Channel 8 and TBO.com were combined.

But there were a lot fewer people to toast the occasion then were around to launch the project.

Richmond, Va.-based Media General formed the Florida Communications Group in 2000 to place its main local properties, along with several community newspapers and niche publications, under a common umbrella. The exercise was intended to create a newsroom designed to serve the community on multiple media platforms at 200 S. Parker St. in downtown Tampa, dubbed The News Center.
