The Florida Supreme Court has once again issued a verdict in favor of preserving the state's “Save Our Homes” constitutional amendment. The amendment caps property tax valuations for year-round Florida residents.
On Monday, the court denied an appeal in the case of Robert Bruner vs. Bert Hartsfield, in which the plaintiffs argued that the “Save Our Homes” law constituted a form of discrimination against part-time residents by creating two classes of taxpayers.
It is the third time that the court has decided in favor of the law. It may also be the last. The court said in its most recent decision that it would not entertain a rehearing on the matter.
