Osprey exports shoot up

Osprey Biotechnics Inc., a Sarasota-based biotechnology firm, is exporting 50% more of its products in 2010 than it did last year. The uptick in export activity is the direct result of the company's effort to increase its business reach in Europe, a release said.

Osprey specializes in industrial microbiology, producing beneficial bacteria for its clients. The bacteria it produces have been used to help crops grow, reduce unpleasant odors, and most notably as of late, to clean up chemical spills.

In the same release, the company also mentioned that it has started working with a Slovenia-based microbiology company, which markets bacteria that are similar to those produced by Osprey.
