Tampa' S&P/Case-Shiller home-price index was up 0.3% in January, Bloomberg reports.

Tampa was also one of six cities that saw an increase in seasonally adjusted prices in January after prices fell in the previous month, the report said.

But what might seem like good news was accompanied by a less-than-rosy assessment from David Blitzer, the index committee chairman at S&P: “While we continue to see improvements in the year-over-year data for all 20 cities, the rebound in housing prices seen last fall is fading,” he said.

“Housing starts continue at extremely low levels, recent reports of home sales suggest the market remains difficult, and concerns remain about further foreclosures and a large shadow inventory of unsold homes,” Blitzer added.
