In an interview with CNBC, Randall Henderson, the mayor of the city of Fort Myers, says perception is hurting the city's economy.
In that interview, Henderson pointed to “the perception that somehow Florida is at risk” is causing a significant decrease in tourism revenue. Furthermore, the mayor claimed that several real estate transactions had been cancelled because of perceived risk from the spill, citing a resort owner who told him he had had 10 transactions cancelled after the incident.
