Bud Chiles enters race

Lawton “Bud” Chiles III will run for governor in Florida's upcoming election. He has declared that he will run as an independent, avoiding a primary battle with Alex Sink, the favorite for the Democratic nomination.

Chiles was foiled in his 2005 attempt at winning the state's governorship because he had not lived in the state for the past seven years. That criterion will no longer be a problem for Chiles, who moved back to Florida from New York in 2003.
