Alan Levine will soon become the new senior vice president of health development operations and government relations at Health Management Associates. His appointment is effective Aug. 9, a release said.

Levine comes to HMA directly from the public sector. Most recently, he served as Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, as well as Senior Health Policy Advisor to Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal.

That role required him to manage a budget of roughly $7 billion. That may have been the perfect experience, as Levine will join a company that earns more than $4 billion in annual revenues.

“We believe Alan's tremendous wealth of health care knowledge, successful record of leadership, and expertise in government relations will complement our operational focus to enable America's best local health care,” said HMA CEO Gary D. Newsome.

Based in Naples, Health Management Associates Inc. operates 58 hospitals across the United States, specializing in non-urban community health care. HMA was featured in a March issue of the Business Review.
