George Steinbrenner has died from a massive heart attack, the Associated Press reports.
"It is with profound sadness that the family of George M. Steinbrenner III announces his passing. He passed away this morning in Tampa," the Steinbrenner family said in a statement.
Steinbrenner, owner of the New York Yankees and Tampa Yankees, celebrated his 80th birthday on July 4.
