Environmental groups continue to be aggressive pursuing litigation when not prevailing with government bureaucracy or legislatures.
This time, the Naples-based Conservancy of Southwest Florida and the Sierra Club issued a press release Feb. 11 saying, the groups “ ... strongly disagree with today's decision by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to deny their petition to designate primary habitat for the endangered Florida panther.”
That would be 1.1 million acres across several South Florida counties, or about twice the size of Lee County. The groups also want to designate other secondary protection zones.
