Red Sox stadium will spur growth

Construction crews recently broke ground on the new Boston Red Sox spring training stadium in Fort Myers, but the bigger news may be the widening of Daniels Parkway around the project.

Lee County will soon start widening Daniels Parkway just east of Interstate 75 from Chamberlin Parkway to Gateway Boulevard. That will boost efforts to bring business to the Madden Research Park, a tech park that's trying to lure a medical manufacturing company on airport property on the south side of Daniels.

Further east, chocolatier Norman Love has indicated to Lee County that he wants to expand his facility off Daniels but can't because of road capacity issues.
The $78 million stadium is scheduled to open for spring training in 2012.
