Unemployment rises to 12%

Florida's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for November 2010 is 12.0%. Of the 9,237,000 members of Florida's eligible work force, roughly 1,110,000 are without jobs, according to the Agency for Workforce Innovation.

Excluding seasonal adjustments, the state lost 55,000 jobs over the last 12 months. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 11.4% a year ago.

The eight counties in the Business Review's coverage area lost 12,457 net jobs over the year. All but one of them saw an increase in their unemployment rates over the year; Lee's rate decreased from 13.4% to 13.3%.

Sarasota County has the region's lowest unemployment rate, at 12.1%. Pasco's rate is the highest, at 13.5%.

The nationwide unemployment rate for November was 9.3%. Businesses across the country have added 283,000 net jobs over the last 12 months.
