Foreclosure capital gets noticed

Is Lee County ever going to relinquish its title as the foreclosure capital of the country?


Month after month, RealtyTrac continues to report that the Cape Coral-Fort Myers area is among the top five metro areas in the country for foreclosures. In July, the area came in at No. 2 nationally, with one in 67 homes getting a foreclosure notice.


But the publicity may be drawing prospective homebuyers. Indeed, another tracking firm, Metrostudy, reports a 32% jump in move-ins to new homes in Lee County in the second quarter of 2010.


Fact is, cheap land and cheap homes have always been a Florida draw. Let's hope this sets us up for the recovery.
