Gulf Coast music fans will get a new look at the Tampa Bay area's oldest outdoor concert venue when the former Jannus Landing reopens in downtown St. Petersburg.

Jannus Live marks its restart next Friday, April 30, with a show by legendary singer/songwriter John Hiatt. The new incarnation represents a partnership between new owner Jeff Knight and music promoter Bill Edwards, who bought it from previous operator Jack Bodziak. Edwards recently sold his share of the venue to Knight for an undisclosed price.

Jannus Landing has been closed since last fall after Bodziak reportedly ran into problems such as owing the state at least $200,000 in back taxes. It briefly reopened last month during Grand Prix race weekend but has since undergone extensive renovations that include a new stage cover, eight luxury suites, expansion of the balcony party deck and installation of more modern restroom fixtures.

“Bill was a valuable contributor in the early stages of the project,” Knight tells Coffee Talk, adding that Edwards will be instrumental in bringing shows to Jannus Live. Edwards, who owns Bill Edwards Presents Inc. and Big3 Entertainment Group, manages a diverse group of musical acts including Cheap Trick, Stryper, Rick Derringer, Jon Secada and Carnie Wilson.
