One of the most high-profile development sites in downtown Fort Myers is for sale.

Maybe.

Cameratta Properties, developer of the High Point Place waterfront residential towers in downtown Fort Myers, has a sign advertising the sale of eight acres nearby.

The land was supposed to be a part of First Street Village, which now features a Publix supermarket. Plans for the eight-acre parcel included 356 condos, a rooftop pool and an elevated jogging track.

Officials with Cleveland-based Cameratta declined to discuss the sale of the property.

But Don Paight, the executive director of the Fort Myers Redevelopment Agency, says Cameratta officials told him recently that the land isn't really for sale. Rather they put it there to attract prospective investors who might be interested in a joint venture or other partnership.
