ST. PETERSBURG — The Vinoy St. Petersburg Resort & Golf Club has embarked on a major renovation and expansion project that will see many of the iconic property’s elements, including hotel rooms, given a makeover.

According to a news release, design firms Rockwell Group and Hart Howerton are leading the “comprehensive transformation.” The first phase will revamp the resort’s verande, porte cochère, main lobby, guest rooms, spa, ballrooms, restaurants and more. Completion is expected in 2022, and the property will remain open to visitors and guests. The cost of the project was not disclosed in the release.

“The Vinoy has been adored by both local Florida residents and visitors for nearly a century,” General Manager Tabish Siddiquie states in the release. “This transformation further establishes The Vinoy as St. Petersburg’s social hub and a pillar of the flourishing community.”

The resort’s arrival court, veranda and lobby will be “reimagined,” according to the release, while maintaining the property’s traditional Mediterranean Revival design and old-Florida grandeur. Guest rooms will be enhanced with streamlined crown molding, wood flooring and new fixtures, and most rooms will have walk-in marble showers. The pool terrace will also be upgraded with a new poolside bar and restaurant.

In 2017, the Vinoy embarked on a $50 million renovation and redevelopment of one of its hotel towers. The property opened on New Year's Eve in 1925 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
