When Publix Super Markets Inc. expands in Lakeland headquarters, as the chain announced it intends to do by 2027 late last month as part of a plan to add 700 new workers, its facility southeast of downtown will grow by roughly 190,000 square feet.
That move will expand the footprint of its headquarters to about 510,000 square feet, or roughly the equivalent of the cylindrical, 31-story Rivergate Tower in downtown Tampa.
