FORT MYERS — The median price of a Fort Myers-area existing single-family home in September rose 25% compared with the same month one year ago.
While the median price rose to $124,000, sales of existing single-family homes fell nearly 27% to 780 because of a decline in the number of houses for sale, according to the Realtor Association of Greater Fort Myers and the Beach.
“As inventories tighten, it affects the number of homes being sold and the median price,” says Marion Briggs, the president of the association, in a statement. “We are experiencing a slower shoulder season as families purchased homes this summer prior to the start of school, and sellers are waiting for seasonal visitors to arrive before putting their home on the market.”
The number of existing homes of all kinds for sale in the Fort Myers area dropped nearly 39% in September compared with the same month in 2011.
