It’s all about grit. That’s the characteristic that leads to success.

Author and psychologist Angela Duckworth dove into the meaning and power of grit in her aptly named bestselling book “Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance.”

At the next Open Book Business Observer book club virtual event, Tampa area business leader Will Weatherford will lead a discussion about “Grit.” The event will be Nov. 4 from 5 to 6 p.m.

Weatherford is the managing partner of Tampa-based Weatherford Capital. He served in the Florida Legislature from 2006-2014, and was Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives from 2012-2014. At 33 years old, he was the youngest Speaker of the House of any state legislature nationwide. Today, he also serves on multiple for-profit and nonprofit boards, and is co-chairman of the Super Bowl LV host committee.

At the book club event, Weatherford will share what “Grit” means to him and how it can help drive success.

“‘Grit’ by Angela Duckworth is an incredible read that opened my eyes to something we know intuitively, that is that success in almost all forms comes to those who have the ability to overcome adversity,” Weatherford tells Coffee Talk. “Life is full of challenges, and learning to embrace and overcome those challenges builds character and grit, and ultimately leads to purpose, intentionality and success.”

Reading “Grit” is encouraged but not required to attend the virtual Open Book gathering. Registration for the event is free. Please register at BusinessObserverFL.com/Book-Club-Event. See you on Nov. 4!
