ZooTampa's Creatures of the Night returns this fall with new attractions

ZooTampa at Lowry Park is resurrecting its annual family-friendly Halloween event, Creatures of the Night, for 15 select nights this fall featuring new themed areas, returning entertainment and after-hours admission. 

The “not-so-frightful, fun-filled event” runs from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on select dates in September and October, culminating on Oct. 31. A members-only opening night is scheduled for Sept. 25, followed by public event nights on Sept. 26; Oct. 2-3; Oct. 9-11; Oct. 16-18; Oct. 23-25; and Oct. 30-31. 

According to a release, this year’s event introduces several new experiences, including Scared of the Dark, a “more intense” spooky realm for older and braver guests, and Ghostly Groves, a haunted-neighborhood-themed walkthrough event for a more family-friendly crowd. Jack-O-Lantern Lane is an immersive display of illuminated pumpkins and special effects, and the Enchanted Circle fountain show features living-statue style performers. 

Returning attractions include The Dancing Dead disco-themed zombie dance party; Carousel de los Muertos, inspired by Dia de los Muertos traditions; Happy Harvest Hollow in the zoo’s Australia area; Land of Oz for younger children; Troll Cave; Pirates Paradise; and a Haunted Light Show presented every 15 minutes in front of the zoo’s haunted house. 

Admission to Creatures of the Night starts after 4 p.m. at $34.95 on Fridays and Sundays and $39.95 on Saturdays. The event is included with zoo membership and Zoo Fun Tickets, although blockout dates apply for Zoo Fun Ticket holders on Oct. 10. 17 and 24. 

Children 12 and younger are invited to wear their Halloween costumes to the spooky soiree, the release says. Guests ages 13 and older are not allowed to wear costumes, masks, wigs or facepaint, and toy weapons are prohibited for all ages.
