A Sarasota property that was home to Architectural Salvage for more than 20 years has changed hands. Located at 1093 Central Ave., the 0.51-acre site sold for $1.8 million.
Architectural Salvage, a business known for selling one-of-a-kind items from antiques to lumber to memorabilia, announced in February that it would be winding down its brick-and-mortar operations. Owner Jesse White is now offering mobile services like salvage and estate cleanouts.
The last day in business for Architectural Salvage was April 23, when a buyer wrote "a check for everything left in the store," according to the shop's Facebook page.
White said he made plans to close the storefront, which opened in 2003, when he decided to sell the building. An LLC registered to White purchased the property for $462,500 in 2018, according to Sarasota County property records.
The 8,450-square-foot building sits on a site zoned for industrial and light warehousing, with a future land use designation of urban mixed use. It is located in an opportunity zone, providing tax incentives and a vehicle for long-term investment, according to a statement from SVN Commercial Advisory Group, which represented the buyer in the transaction.
County records show the buyer of the site is South Pineapple Investment LLC, a Sarasota company registered to Kimeth Gardner.
"This property sits at the intersection of accessibility and opportunity in one of Sarasota’s most dynamic and rapidly evolving areas," SVN Commercial Advisory Group Executive Director Larry Starr says in a statement. "Positioned just off US-41, it is only a minute from the heart of downtown Sarasota and steps from the trendy and rapidly evolving Rosemary District, offering unparalleled convenience, access and long-term redevelopment value.”
The local investor buying the site plans a complete renovation of the property, a representative for SVN Commercial Advisory Group says in an email.
"This closing reflects what we continue to see across Sarasota's urban core — strong demand for well-positioned assets where proximity, redevelopment potential and opportunity zone benefits converge," SVN Commercial Advisory Group Associate Advisor Hannah Starr says.
