The Tampa Convention Center stepped onto the world stage this week, winning the globally acclaimed 2026 Venue Excellence Award from the international Association of Venue Managers, the city announced.

The center is one of only five venues in the world to receive this year’s award, given out by the largest global professional organization dedicated to managing and operating public assembly spaces like stadiums, arenas, convention centers and performing arts centers.

“Earning the IAVM Venue Excellence Award is an extraordinary validation of our team's relentless dedication and hard work,” David Ingram, executive director of the Tampa Convention Center, says in the release. “To stand alongside the world's best sports venues and convention centers proves that we are setting the standard for excellence in the global meetings industry.”

The IAVM selected winners for the award based on strict criteria, the release says: operational excellence, team building and professional development, safety and security, and service to the community. Other winners of this year’s 2026 Venue Excellence Award include the Baird Center in Milwaukee; the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City; Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California; and the Seattle Convention Center.

Tampa Convention Center staff will formally accept the award during an IAVM event scheduled for August in Indianapolis.

This year’s international recognition is one of multiple industry accolades for the waterfront venue in recent months. In the past year, the Tampa Convention Center has also won:

  • The Prevue 2026 Visionary Awards: First-time nominee for Best U.S. Convention Center. Voting is open until August 26.
  • Stella Awards by Northstar Meetings Group: 2026 finalist for Best Convention Center (Regional – Southeast U.S.) with winners to be announced in October, following three consecutive gold medals in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
  • Smart Stars Award: 2026 winner for the second consecutive year.
  • ConventionSouth Magazine: Named a 2025 Best of the Best Convention Center and recipient of the Readers’ Choice Award.

The center’s momentum is driven by its recent $44 million capital improvement and expansion project, which added 18 waterfront meeting rooms to the facility — nine of which connect directly to its 200,000-square-foot exhibit hall.

The Tampa Convention Center also underwent a wall-to-wall renovation and received a new exterior LED marquee installed in January. That was followed by three public digital art installations unveiled in June.

The Tampa Convention Center offers 600,000 square feet of transformable meeting and event space, according to the release. This year alone, the center has already hosted more than 100 events drawing in more than 300,000 attendees and generating a $147 million economic impact, the city says.
