Fort Myers architect to lead national architecture organization

A Fort Myers architect will take on national leadership roles within a professional organization over the next two years. Joyce Owens, the founding principal of Architecture Joyce Owens (AJO), has been elected by the American Institute of Architects to serve as its 2027 president-elect and 2028 president. 

“The work begins now,” Owens says in an August statement. “And I am ready.”

Owens was elected during the AIA Conference on Architecture & Design in San Diego in June. For years, she has held leadership roles at the AIA, including as president of AIA Florida Southwest and AIA Florida, according to the statement, which says her campaign focused on the importance of communicating the value that architects bring.

In 2007, Owens established AJO and has developed the firm with a focus on climate-sensitive design, particularly resilient island and coastal homes, resorts and commercial projects.
