$300M hospital planned for Cape Coral

Planning is underway for a new hospital in Cape Coral. The city and HCA Florida Healthcare announced HCA Florida Cape Coral Hospital is projected to open in 2029.

The new hospital will be at 322 SW Pine Island Road, where HCA Florida Cape Coral Emergency currently operates. As part of the project, the site will be expanded into a hospital with inpatient and outpatient services.

Spanning 200,000 square feet, the new facility will be three stories. It will include an emergency department, operating rooms, cardiac catheterization lab and up to 100 acute care beds in its first phase, with room to expand as needs grow.

“Building HCA Florida Cape Coral Hospital is an important step in HCA Florida Healthcare’s broader strategy to expand access to care in Lee County,” Jyric Sims, president of HCA Healthcare’s West Florida Division, says in a statement. “With our acquisition of HCA Florida Lehigh Hospital, the opening of HCA Florida West Fort Myers Emergency and the construction of HCA Florida Alico Emergency, planned to open in late 2026, we are building a more connected network to meet the growing healthcare needs of the region.”

Services available at the hospital in Cape Coral will include emergency and inpatient care, imaging and outpatient, surgical and cardiovascular services. It will have 330 to 350 full-time staff.

Construction is expected to begin in 2027 and will likely take about two years to complete.

The mayor of Cape Coral says the project will help fulfill one of his major goals for the city.

“One of my priorities as mayor has been the importance of expanding healthcare in Cape Coral. More specifically, my goal has been to bring a second hospital to our community,” Mayor John Gunter says in a statement. "Partnering with HCA Florida will allow us to achieve those goals and serve our community well in the future.”

Once complete, the new facility will be the 19th hospital in HCA Healthcare West Florida Division. HCA Florida Healthcare operates 50 hospital campuses across the state. Parent company HCA Healthcare reported $75.6 billion in revenue in 2025.
