20-unit north Manatee community wins $750K state appropriation

Manatee County Habitat for Humanity received $750,000 in state money to help build a new townhouse community in Palmetto.

The funding was included in the state’s $117.6 billion budget and is for the construction of infrastructure around the project including roads, drainage and site preparation.

The townhouse community is set to be built on about 1.86 acres near the intersection of 11th Street West and Eighth Avenue West, according to a statement. It will include 20 three-bedroom, two-bathroom units. Each will be 1,675 square feet.

The funding was secured by Senate Pres. Jim Boyd, R-Bradenton, and Rep. Will Robinson, R-Bradenton, the nonprofit says. Infrastructure work is scheduled to begin early next year.

In addition to the state appropriation, a spokesperson says in an email that the organization received $111,000 for the project through Manatee’s Home program. The spokesperson did not say what the total cost to build the community is expected be but that “we are also seeking additional support” for it.

Manatee Habitat for Humanity says on its website that it has built and sold 144 homes in the county since being founded in 1994 and helps 25 families annually through its Home Preservation Program.

According to its 2025 Form 990 posted on the nonprofit research company Candid GuideStar’s website, Manatee Habitat for Humanity has $14.97 million in total assets.
