An Atlanta-based developer has bought nearly 32 acres in Fort Myers and plans to build apartments on the site.
The developer, The Residential Group, paid $19.96 million for the 31.9-acre assemblage of land at the southeast corner of Winkler Road and Gladiolus Drive. It is in Lee County's mixed-use overlay district.
The district, according to the county, identifies areas that are appropriate for mixed-use development because they are near public transportation, schools, recreation, and existing residential, shopping and employment centers.
Residential plans to build 386 luxury apartment units alongside 7 acres of commercial outparcels on the site, according to LSI Cos., the Fort Myers commercial real estate firm which announced and helped broker the deal.
This is the first time the property has changed hands in more than 30 years, the firm says.
Residential is a multifamily developer with properties across the South. That includes three developments in Southwest Florida.
Alex Henderson and Max Molloy, formerly with Fischler Property Company and now with LSI Co., brokered the deal.
