Peachey’s Baking Company is opening a brick-and-mortar store in The Landings shopping center in Sarasota. The owners, who have for years sold donuts and pretzels out of a light-blue food truck, say the shop will begin welcoming customers for a grand opening on May 10.
Brothers Nate and Sam Peachey have gained a cult following with their Peachey’s Baking Co. donut truck, which appears at local events from November to April, selling large made-from-scratch donuts and pretzels. The food truck also travels to fairs around Florida, New York, Iowa, Minnesota and North Carolina.
The donuts are so popular the Des Moines Register recently wrote about the fact the vendor, which attracts long lines in Iowa, was not attending this year’s Iowa State Fair in August. The owners cited the Sarasota store opening as the reason it was “cutting back on events” in addition to timing and weather not being “ideal for its operations.”
After an April 26 appearance at Crowder Bros. Ace Hardware in Lakewood Ranch, Peachey's Baking Co. wound down the food truck locally as it normally does for the summer.
“We’re planning on opening the local truck again in the fall,” the business says on Instagram, where it has more than 45,000 followers. It has 52,000 followers on Facebook, where it also shared the news of its upcoming opening in the Landings.
"We've been working hard getting everything ready to go & can't wait to see people walk through our doors," Peachey's Baking Co. says on Facebook.
The large fan base and new store come after more than 10 years of selling donuts. Founder Nate Peachey originally called it the Amish Baking Co., because he grew up Amish and uses Amish recipes. He reportedly rebranded it as Peachey’s Baking Co. when his brother, Sam, joined the business. That was in 2018, according to state records.
Peachey’s Baking Co. will hold a grand opening from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, at 4800 S. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota. The business plans to sell donuts, pretzels and coffee from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday. The store is located near DogPerfect and Miss Jodi’s School of Dance in The Landings shopping center.
