Construction on a 375-unit apartment complex in a prominent Tampa mixed-used development will start in the coming weeks after developers obtained $63 million in financing.
The project is being built by Fort Lauderdale-based Zom Living and its partners MetLife Investment Management. Along with the eight-story apartment building, the project will include 3,000 square feet of retail and a six-story parking garage.
A spokesperson for Zom, which announced the news Monday, would not disclose the financial terms of the loan.
MetWest Residential, as the complex will be known, will be built in MetWest International, a 32-acre mixed-use development across from International Plaza and about a mile from Raymond James Stadium to the east and Tampa International Airport to the west.
The complex, which will be complete in the summer of 2026, will be a significant addition to the development which already includes 1 million square feet of office space, a 175-room AC Hotel by Marriott and a 56,000-square-foot retail center with Texas de Brazil, Kona Grill and Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant.
According to the news release, the apartment building will be made up of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units ranging in size from 576 square feet to 1,602 square feet.
The list of amenities includes many of the standards associated with a luxury development like this one, but it will also have a speakeasy-style lounge on the eighth floor as well as the ground floor retail.
Zom has a long history in the area with, according to the release, two recent multifamily developments: Azola South Tampa and Azalea Apartments.
Azola South Tampa is a 214-unit garden-style community near MacDill Air Force base. And the Azalea Apartments is a 289-unit complex in Brandon.
In all, Zom says in the statement that it has developed more than 24,000 apartment units across the country with a value of almost $5 billion. And it recently launched a senior housing division.
