A new Asian grocery store is now open in Sarasota near Gulf Gate. HL Asian Market officially opened along US 41 south of Stickney Point Road on Dec. 15, according to staff.
Housed in a building that spans tens of thousands of square feet, the business sells everything from meats to cookware.
Fish tanks feature live crabs, eel and other sea life next to the seafood counter, which also provides fish cleaning service.
Several aisles in one section of the store are stocked with noodles and rice, while another aisle is dedicated entirely to tea.
Asian chips, candies and sauces are also available. In addition, freezers are filled with everything from dumplings to vegetables.
An alcohol section near the entryway offers sake and beer, among other items. Woks, chopsticks, dishes and teapots featuring Asian designs are also for sale.
Before its mid-December opening, the building was under construction for months. Previously, the location on Tamiami Trail was home to event venue The Devyn.
In March 2023, All Event Rental LLC sold the 2.2-acre property to Xiong Di Group LLC for more than $4.7 million, according to Sarasota County property records.
The Xiong Di Group LLC is based in Spring Hill at an address that belongs to another HL Asian Market. Management was not available to speak with the Business Observer on a Dec. 19 visit to the Sarasota store.
HL Asian Market is open from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily at 7113 S. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota.
