A 279-unit apartment complex in Sarasota County’s North Port has opened and started leasing.

The complex, on 13.6-acres along U.S. 41, was built by Atlanta developer Davis Development. It is in the city’s planned community Wellen Park and near Downtown Wellen.

Tropia Wellen Park, as the complex is known, has one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments ranging from 684 square feet to 1,548 square feet. Rents start at $1,899 for one bedrooms with between 684 square feet and 746 square feet of living space. A one-bedroom with 1,005 square feet starts at $2,434 and a three-bedroom with 1,548 square feet starts at $3,399, according to a search of the complex’s website March 22.

According to rentcafe.com the average rent in North Port is $1,789 for 950 square feet.

A statement from the developers says the complex has a resort-style pool, a two-story a fitness center, a dog park and a pet spa, “as well as the prime convenience of a high-energy downtown lifestyle.”

Wellen Park includes West Villages, Downtown Wellen and Playmore. The community is being built on 11,000 acres, including 7,000 acres of undeveloped land, and when full built will have 22,000 homes and more than 60,000 residents.

The Downtown Wellen development is a mixed-use center that is said to be the main shopping and entertainment hub in the community.

Atlanta-based Davis has more than 30 properties in six states according to its website. Of those, 14 are in Florida, including properties in Lakewood Ranch, Clearwater, Cape Coral, Riverview, Venice and Sarasota.
