PASCO — A Miami developer has bought a popular area resort and plans a major renovation.

Mast Captial has bought the 480-acre Saddlebrook Resort in Wesley Chapel. The resort includes 500 hotel rooms-condominiums, 45 tennis courts, two Arnold Palmer-designed golf course and 100,000 square feet of meeting space. This along with several cafes, restaurants, pool, shops and a driving range.

The resort is probably best known for its tennis training academy whose students have included Pete Sampras, Martina Hingis, Andy Roddick, James Blake, Jennifer Capriati and Jim Courier.

Mast, which bought the resort along with Amzak Capital Management, did not disclose the sale price. The sale has not yet posted on Pasco County’s property appraisers website.

As part of the takeover, Mast is planning an “extensive renovation.”

In an email to the Business Observer, the company’s CEO Camilo Miguel Jr. says “the immediate upgrades we want to make to the Saddlebrook Resort include renovating the amenities in the common areas, we want to improve the golfing experience for the community and enhance the academy, where top tennis players still train and attend clinics.

“The academy is such a strong component of this iconic property and has so much history that we want to enhance the overall experience for the players.”

This is the second property Mast has bought in the area in the past year. In November it bought 16 acres in Wesley Chapel where it plans to build 248 luxury apartments. That project is expected to break ground this year.
